American Water Works Co., Inc. provides water and wastewater utility services to residential, commercial, industrial, public, and other customers. It operates through two segments: Regulated Businesses and Market-Based Operations. The Regulated Businesses segment involves in the ownership of subsidiaries that provide water and wastewater utility services to residential, commercial, industrial and other customers, including sale for resale and public authority customers. The Market-Based Operations segment includes three lines of business: Contract Operations Group, Homeowner Services Group and Terratec Environmental Ltd. The Contract Operations Group operates and maintains water and wastewater facilities for the United States military, municipalities, the food and beverage industry and other customers. The Homeowner Services Group provides services to domestic homeowners and smaller commercial establishments to protect against the cost of repairing broken or leaking water pipes and clogged or blocked sewer pipes inside and outside their accommodations. The Terratec Environmental provides biosolids management, transport and disposal services to municipal and industrial customers. The company was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Voorhees, NJ.
