Compass Minerals International, Inc. is engaged in the business of producing and marketing minerals, including salt, sulfate of potash specialty fertilizer and magnesium chloride. It provides highway deicing salt to customers in North America and the United Kingdom and specialty fertilizer to growers and fertilizer distributors worldwide. The company also produces and markets consumer deicing and water conditioning products, ingredients used in consumer and commercial food preparation, and other mineral based products for consumer, agriculture and industrial applications. It operates through two segments: Salt and Plant nutrition. The Salt segment produces salt and magnesium chloride for use in road deicing and dust control, food processing, water softeners, pool salt and agricultural and industrial applications. The Plant nutrition segment produces and markets sulfate of potash crop nutrients, industrial grade sulfate of potash and magnesium chloride for agricultural purposes. Compass Minerals International was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Overland Park, KS.
