It also provides refueling services for nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, at the forefront of new ship technologies, specialized manufacturing capabilities and nuclear facility management. Its areas of business include the design, construction, repair and maintenance of nuclear-powered ships, such as aircraft carriers and submarines, and non-nuclear ships, such as surface combatants, expeditionary warfare/amphibious assault, and coastal defense surface ships, as well as the refueling and overhaul and the inactivation of nuclear-powered ships. The company operates its business through two segments: Ingalls Shipbuilding and Newport News Shipbuilding. The Ingalls Shipbuilding segment includes non-nuclear ship design, construction, repair and maintenance businesses. The Newport News Shipbuilding segment includes all of its nuclear ship design, construction, overhaul, refueling and repair and maintenance businesses. Huntington Ingalls Industries was founded on March 31, 2011 and is headquartered in Newport News, VA.
