Leggett & Platt, Inc. manufactures and distributes the required components for furniture, fixtures, and automobiles companies. The company operates through four segments: Residential Furnishings, Commercial Fixturing and Components, Industrial Materials and Specialized Products. The Residential Furnishings segment supplies components, which are primarily used by bedding and upholstered furniture manufacturers in the assembly of their finished products. This segment offers innersprings and wire forms, steel mechanisms, seat suspensions, steel tubular seat frames, bed frames, ornamental beds, and adjustable beds. The Commercial Fixturing and Components segment manufactures and sells store fixtures and point-of-purchase displays for retail stores. This segment also provides shelving, counters, showcases, and garment racks; standardized shelving; and bases, columns, back rests, control devices, casters, and frames for office chairs. The Industrial Materials segment offers steel rods, drawn wires, steel billets, fabricated wires, welded steel tubings, fabricated tube components, and titanium and nickel tubing products. This segment serves bedding and furniture; mechanical spring makers; automotive seating; lawn and garden equipment manufacturers; waste recyclers; and medical supply businesses. The Specialized Products segment is engaged in supplying lumbar support systems and seat suspension systems. It also manufactures and installs shelving and cabinets, as well as quilting and sewing machinery. This segment primarily serves automobile seating and bedding manufacturers, as well as telecom, cable, home service, and delivery companies. Leggett & Platt was founded by J. P. Leggett and C. B. Platt in 1883 and is headquartered in Carthage, MO.
