The company provides long term sale-leaseback and build-to-suit financing and engages in other types of real estate-related investments to the companies. It operates its business through two segments: Investment Management & Real Estate Ownership. The Investment Management segment structures and negotiates investments and debt placement transactions for the REITs, and manages their portfolios of real estate investments. The Real Estate Ownership segment owns and invests in commercial properties in the U.S. and the European Union that is then leased to companies, primarily on a single-tenant, triple-net leased basis. The company and its CPA(R) series of income-generating, non-traded REITs help companies and private equity firms unlock capital tied up in real estate assets. W.P. Carey was founded by William Polk Carey in 1973 and is headquartered in New York, NY.
